Volvo S90 Will Reportedly Debut at 2016 Detroit Motor Show

It was during last year's summer when rumours about an upcoming Volvo S90 said the Swedish sedan would make an appearance soon after the launch of its SUV brother, the XC90.

The so-called Volvo S90 comes to replace the company's long-serving S80 and it was confirmed that China will be in charge of handling production-related matters. More precise, Volvo's Daqing, China plant will handle assembly of the much-anticipated S90 sedan.

But a wave of fresh air is added to Volvo S90's rumour mill, coming as rumours about the limousine's place of debut. According to a report on Indian Autos Blog, Volvo will present the S90 on the stage during the 2016 Detroit Motor Show, which opens its gates next year on January 11.

The all-new car will be underpinned by Volvo's new SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture), which was also used to sustain the ambitions of the Volvo XC90 SUV. Moreover, expect the saloon to be wrapped in similar styling cues as the majestic Volvo Concept Estate.

On that note, we expect to see Thor's hammer reinterpreted again as LED daytime running lights coupled with Volvo's floating grille and assorted with muscular but athletic proportions.

Word out there is that the S90 will take over the same engine lineup showcased by the XC90 SUV. That means clients will be able to choose between a 254-horsepower turbocharged T5 petrol unit or a 225-horsepower twin-turbo diesel D5 version, among others. It's highly probable that a T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid model will be offered, joined by an optional all-wheel drive system for all powertrain options.

What we must keep in mind is that the Swedes want to sell somewhere around 200,000 cars per year in China, so expect the S90 to play in a higher league as a response to the requests of China's businessmen desires and needs.
