Volvo S80L for China: Specs and Photos

The bond Volvo seems to share with the Chinese market grew even stronger yesterday with the launch of the new Volvo S80L, a model seriously tweaked up and 140mm longer than the previous S80.

Volvo says it has designed the S80L after "comprehensive research of the Chinese market". Supposed to enter governmental and business customers' garages, the S80L uses an entire array of gadgets (even a refrigerator tucked away in the rear seat), infotainment equipment and a touch of luxury.

The S80L comes in five versions, the most impressive of which is the 3.0 T6 AWD. It is equipped with Volvo's 3.0l six-cylinder in-line turbocharged engine, which develops some 285 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque.

The car gets from naught to sixty in 7.2 seconds, thanks to the use of twin scroll technology. The system uses a more compact and simple turbocharger with quick response, giving equivalent performance to dual turbochargers.

The S80L, Volvo's flagship on the Chinese market, is, as you may have quested by now, one of China's safest vehicles in the premium segment. Besides the acronyms we all know and love, like BLIS (Blind Spot Information System), WHIPS (Whiplash Protection System) or IDIS (Intelligent Driver Information System), the S80L also features a body structure enhanced by the use of four grades of steel.

The Swedish company intends on expanding their take on the Chinese market, and the release of this purpose built S80L is hoped will do just that. Together with its other models, Volvo expects to see a 10 percent increase in sales on the Chinese market or even above that figure.

"Volvo S80L is an all new model specially tailored for the Chinese market, and also the most luxurious car Volvo has ever made. The stretched wheel base fully meets the discerning demands of Chinese luxury car consumers. Meanwhile, S80L proves Volvo's leadership in terms of safety and design," Alexander Klose, Volvo CEO said
