Swedish carmaker Volvo has plans of turning Polestar into a sort of Skunk Works division, their very own in-house tuner. The two companies already collaborated on the 400 horsepower 2.5T-powered C30 Polestar and a number of race cars, but now we have something for the road.
Volvo has teased a brand new S60 Polestar performance model ahead of it official debut which is scheduled for June 16th at the Gothenburg City Race.
The S60 Polestar obviously comes with a lower ride height and stiffer suspension, lighter wheels and a full body kit. It’s also got a beautiful light blue color.
What we don’t know is what’s under the bonnet. About a week ago, we showed you the first spyshots what we though would be called the S60 R by Polestar. These were taken by the a Swedish automotive magazine that said it sounded not like a regular S60, but like a V8.
However, if we’re to trust out gut instinct and look at the projects that previewed this, it’s far more likely this car comes with a tuned version of the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six normally found in the range-topping S60 models. Whatever the engine used, all-wheel drive is almost a certainty.
