The system had to compete with some 1,000 products from all sectors of technologies, sports and lifestyle for the title of Best Product of the Year 2010. Despite the aforementioned fail, the system which is supposed to prevent collisions with pedestrians or, at higher speeds, reduces the consequences of an accident, managed to impress the 144 jurors from 32 nations which voted for it.
"The products honoured with the most Plus X Award seals in their product type received the distinction "Best Product of the Year". The crucial element in the jury's decision was rational innovation, the Plus X factor, which clearly improves the present-day state of the art and sets the prize winner apart from its competitors. The jury recognised such an innovative edge in the new safety system from Volvo Cars, pedestrian detection with full auto brake," Volvo says in a statement.
For the promotion of the same vehicle, rash-avoidance system included, Volvo has started yesterday a five-city European tour. To promote the S60, Volvo has already been to Berlin and will now head for London, Paris, Milan and end up in Madrid.
"We want to reach out to a new target audience, a creative young city crowd which the S60 is perfect for. We are going to meet them in their natural environments through their interests. We aspire on making them spread the word - that Volvo has changed!"
