Polestar is a name we all know. They're the guys who turn average Volvos into the things we drool over, like that 450 PS C30 concept with all-wheel drive. Then came the super-saloon to rival all the the Germans, the S60 concept with a top speed of 186 mph. But they're not just responsible for touring cars and crazy concepts we'll never be able to drive, since their first production machines have just gone into production.

That's right, the first examples of the S60 and V60 Polestar are rolling off the factory assembly line in Torslanda, Volvo's Swedish factory that's been cranking out cars since 1964. These blue cars are a little different though. They have a twin scroll 3-liter turbo engine under the bonnet that's capable of 350 PS, delivered to all four corners of the car through rear-biased all-wheel-drive system and a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Only 750 units of the Polestar branded S60 and V60 will be made this year. They will be delivered to what are likely the biggest Volvo fans in counties like Canada, the Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the USA.

”We are very happy to see the first ever complete production cars from Polestar be built in the Volvo factory. It is a satisfying result of many hours of work by the people of Polestar and Volvo behind this,” said Henrik Fries, S/V60 Polestar Technical Project Manager.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
