A few days ago we were telling you about Volvo introducing its new Active High Beam Control technology at Geneva. That already happened, but the Swedish automaker didn't tell us it had something else up its sleeve.
If the Active High Beam Control was able to detect oncoming traffic and unprotected road users (pedestrians, that is), their new Cyclist Detection with Full Autobrake system is not only spotting the cyclists that the car encounters on its route, but can also save their lives by braking without driver input.
"The advanced sensor system scans the area ahead. If a cyclist heading in the same direction as the car suddenly swerves out in front of the car as it approaches from behind and a collision is imminent, there is an instant warning and full braking power is applied," Volvo explains.
Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection with full auto brake will be available for the Volvo V40, S60, V60, XC60, V70, XC70 and S80 models from mid-May in 2013.
