Volvo Introducing New Winter Tire Programme

Volvo’s UK arm announced that it is introducing a new Winter Tire Programme that is aimed at allowing drivers to stay mobile during the cold season.

The automaker is offering drivers the option to swap their normal road tires for winter versions. The program includes alloy wheel & tire packages that start form 949 pounds (VAT not included), with a range that covers a selection of Volvo models, including the most popular fitment on existing models. The alloy wheel and tire packages are available with either Pirelli or Continental rubber.

Volvo also offers a summer tire storage option. This is called the “Tire Hotel” and allows customers to store a spare set of wheels and tires at their local dealerships, changing their wheels every six months for a twice yearly charge of 85 pounds (VAT included).

Volvo winter tires cost no more than normal tires, but they could stop you at shorter distances regardless of how bad the weather gets. In fact, conditions don’t even have to be that dire before stopping distances are seriously affected,” said Lee Berrell, Aftersales Manager at Volvo Car UK.

To be safe, it is recommended that you switch to a set of winter tires when the temperature drops below 7°C. In the UK, that’s usually between October and March – so now’s the time to benefit from the Volvo Winter Tyre Programme,” the executive added.

Volvo’s new initiative was created as a response to last January’s heavy snowfall, which came with the coldest temperatures since 1963 and icy conditions that made driving difficult.
