Volvo Extends Warranty in the US

Ford's still-subsidiary Volvo has announced today it will launch an extended warranty program for all the Volvo vehicles purchased in the US throughout June and will also introduce a wear-and-tear coverage for its range, Autonews reported.

Under Volvo's Safe + Sound program, the warranty and included maintenance for all 2009 models purchased in June will now be extended from 4 years/50,000 miles to 5 years/60,000 miles.

As we said, Volvo will join BMW in offering a wear-and-tear coverage, available for 4 years/50,000 miles. The program includes brake pads, rotors and windshield wiper inserts and, in addition, also provides customers with a five-year road side assistance.

The program may be extended, if successful, all the way until August, so that it will include the 2010 models scheduled to arrive at that time, Tassos Panas, Volvo Cars of North America executive vice president of sales told the source. This is because under the above mentioned warranties only the 2009 models are included.

As for sale over the past month, Volvo reported a drastic drop in sales, selling 42.1 percent less vehicles than in the fifth month of 2008. This translates into 22,704 vehicles sold.

Recently, the Swedish manufacturer announced it plans a hybrid vehicle for 2012, in collaboration with Swedish energy company Vattenfall. In light of US' new mileage regulations, the hybrid Volvo may prove to be the right path for the brand. Meanwhile, its fate is yet to be decided, as Ford has put the company up for sale for some time now.
