If we know anything about Volvo, we know that it's a brand that makes cars the way they want to. They were and still are the pioneers of safety features and the world thanks them for this. That's why, when its CEO announced that the Swedish company won't be building a 7 Series rival nobody was surprised.
According to Automotive News, Volvo is not currently looking into creating a S-Class or BMW 7 Series competitor and it's highly unlikely it will ever do. Volvo CEO, Hakan Samuelsson said that the Scandinavian company cares too much about its reputation and legacy, and creating such a limousine would definitely hurt the manufacturer's green image.

"We don't have any ambitions to go into a segment where we would compete with vehicles that have V-8 or V-12 engines. We don't believe it would fit our brand image," Samuelsson told Automotive News China at the Shanghai auto show on Saturday.

This piece of news contradicts the rumors that started going around when Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. bought the company from Ford Motor Co. Back then, Li Shufu, Geely CEO suggested that the Scandinavian manufacturer should compete on new segments with the likes of the 7 Series.

Either way, BMW had nothing to worry about. The German company just regained the number one spot in the premium segment and sales of the 7 Series are going extremely well. Furthermore, a limousine Volvo would've taken months to be developed and even more to capture a significant piece of the market and BMW is already testing the new G11 7er which would've blown anything that Volvo might've come up with, out of the water.
