Volvo Driver’s Attempt to Cut Traffic Through a Desiccated Riverbed Backfires

We all hate sitting in traffic, and we’d all do almost anything to get faster to where we’re going. The threshold on what is acceptable and what isn’t varies from person to person, and you can blame that on our otherwise beautiful diversity.
Some are guided by common sense or a personal set of moral values while others will do anything to get in front as long as it’s legal. And then there’s the third category that will stop at nothing, and we have them to thank for videos such as this one.

You might be a little confused about what you see here. The Volvo driver is at the bottom of the main river crossing Romania’s capital city, Bucharest. As you’ll have noticed, there isn’t much of a river there, and that’s because it’s been temporarily desiccated to allow the much-needed cleaning of the river bed.

For some, having to look at that filthy river bottom is just a visual sore they’ll have to live with for the next few weeks (or more), while for others it presents a whole new set of opportunities to trick the busy downtown traffic. Especially when you drive an AWD SUV like the Volvo XC90.

He didn’t take into account the mud and the other residues left after the water was gone, so his tires proved no match for the slippery ramp he had to climb to get out. A valiant attempt, but it looks like we won’t be seeing this route coming up on any navigation software soon. So he was forced to turn around and hope that the access point he used to get in will be just as easy to navigate on his way up as it was when descending.

In the end, it seems like all he managed to do was get his car dirty, and waste some more of his presumably precious time. Oh, and become a bit of a laughing stock, while also casting some doubts over the off-road capabilities of the Volvo XC90. Nice going there, mate.
