Volvo Celebrates PV36 75 Years at TechnoClassica

Volvo Cars has announced that it will be present at this year’s TechnoClassica Show in Essen, Europe’s biggest show for classic cars and automobilia. Volvo’s theme will be called “Volvo PV36 75 years”.

At TechnoClasica, which will be held in April 7 to 11, Volvo’s display will focus on the PV36 model, also known as “Carioca.” Considering the heritage and the place the Carioca has in both the automotive history and in the brand’s history, Volvo decided this was a birthday worth celebrating.

The Volvo stand will feature not one, but three of the unusual PV36 model. So what’s the catch? Well, the three cars will be in a very different condition: one is just a rusty wreck which has spent most of its life in a peat bog; one is a restoration project partly assembled; the third example is maybe the most beautiful of all existing "Cariocas", and there are less than 25 left today.

The car is very rare, as only 500 were ever built and sold. Five percent of them have survived and ten percent of the survivors are present on the Volvo Cars Heritage stand at TechnoClassica.

Alongside the TechnoClassica Show, Volvo Cars Heritage will also present two other activities this year for enthusiasts:

  • Viking Classic Autoshow 2010, June 11-13 at the Château de Beauregard in the French Loire valley, specially celebtrating the 1800 www.vca2010.com
  • 2.IVM/Volvo Club Deutschland which is August 26-28 near Itzehoe in Germany. This is the interantional version of VROM which tours the European countries. More info at www.vrom.org.
