For those of you who are not familiar with Volvo’s activity, here’s an update: besides manufacturing commercial vehicles, the Swedish company’s portfolio is also created around trucks, buses, construction equipment, drive systems for marine and industrial applications and aerospace components.
Overwhelmed already? Well, you should be but bear in mind that there’s a lot more where this came from. Luckily, Volvo knows time is money so the latest video released on its official YouTube channel is more like a time capsule that compressed the company’s entire history in just seven minutes of your time.
You should also know that Volvo’s devotion to car safety comes from a tragedy that hit one of the company’s founders, Assar Gabrielsson. He lost his wife in a car crash so when Gustaf Larsson agreed to join in and start a company that would produce the safest cars possible, the Volvo brand was born.
Operating under the motto ‘Volvo for life’, the company which draws its name from Latin (meaning “I roll”) made a name for itself after producing models like the PV444 or the P1800 - their first sports car - as well as the popular 850 model.
Even though the company is currently under Chinese ownership, Volvo’s roots are no doubt of the purest Swedish DNA. This is what the following video is trying to say, in an attempt to look back at those glorious years and somehow place older models on the automotive industry’s pedestal.
