Volswagen Motorsport to Bring Golf24 Trio to Nurburgring 24

Volkswagen will bring a total of three Golf24 racers to this weekend’s Nurburgring endurance event in Germany. The 39 edition of the race coincides with the 35th anniversary of the Golf GTI, so the trio is numbered in accordance: 35, 135 and 235.

Unlike the GTI, which has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, the Golf24 gets the same 2.5-liter that’s found under the bonnet of the Audi RS3 Sportback and the TT-RS. However, the endurance racer boasts an impressive 450 horsepower that’s sent to the road via an all-wheel drive system and a -speed gearbox. In addition to the uber-Golfs , VW is also to field two Scirocco 24 CNGs.

"With the new Golf24 we are continuing our successful commitment at the Nürburgring 24-hour race. The event enjoys huge popularity, is one of the true classics in motorsport and, due to its extreme distance and unique race track, also represents a very big technical challenge, With our spectacular Golf we want to provide an additional highlight in front of a large audience – right in time for the 35th anniversary of the GTI this year," said VW Motorsport Director Kris Nissen

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
