Volkswagen Motorsport has won the 2013 WRC (World Rally Championship) title for manufacturers in its debut year, following the one-two victory at the Rally Spain, adding to the Drivers’ Championship obtained by Sebastien Ogier three weeks ago.
Following this weekend’s success, Volkswagen has sealed the Manufacturers’ Championship with 382 points, 108 more than Citroen Total Abu Dhabi, with only one round to go (Wales Rally, November 14-17). Volkswagen Motorsport’s main cars are driven by Sebastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia and Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila.
“Winning all three World Championship titles in one season is simply unbelievable. Given that this is the first season we have competed in the World Rally Championship with the Polo R WRC, it is an even greater achievement. Winning the Drivers’ and Co-Drivers’ World Championship was an absolute highlight for the whole team,” said Jost Capito, director of Volkswagen Motorsport.
“It was a dream come true for Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia in particular at their home event three weeks ago. But the Manufacturers’ World Championship is even more important for a car maker because it proves that it’s not just the driver who’s exceptional – the product is too,” he said.
Volkswagen Motorsport won nine out of twelve races this season.
