We might not know very much about jeans, since here at autoevolution we're more into you know...cars and all that stuff. However, VW came up with the special edition jeans up!, and we wanted to know more.

In the 17th century, jeans were a vital fabric for Italy's working-class. In other words, lower-class people wore them as a cheaper, comfortable and resistant alternative to fancy clothing. As far as we know, Volkswagen are based in Wolfsburg but that has nothing to do with the jeans up! special edition the carmaker just launched.

It's based on the regular five-door version of the up! but received a bunch of minor tweaks both on the outside and on the inside. Let's start with the interior, where the jeans-inspired theme is the most visible. The seats adopted the famous jeans look while their borders are covered in Sioux leather-like material.

The "up!" badge is present on the door sill guards and cloth floor mats while chrome accents decorate the air vents, radio panel, and the instrument cluster. On the outside, Volkswagen fitted the jeans up! with a set of new 16-inch alloy wheels, chrome mirror caps to match the inside chrome detailing plus tinted rear and side windows.

As far as engine options are concerned, those looking for a slightly out of the ordinary up! can have any of the engines already available for the minicar range.

Namely, you can either have the 1.0-liter mill in its 60 HP and 75 HP versions, but you can also go for the 68 HP natural gas option. Starting price in Germany: €12,375 ($13,454 at current exchange rates).
