Volkswagen Up! Almost Goes up Using Balloons

Volkswagen tried and failed to lift the new Up! citycar into the air using only small balloons. Yet we can’t really be upset or disported with their efforts, since it’s such a great idea.
As the story goes, VW created a microsite for the Up! which encouraged you to share a photo of yourself and click that little like button. When 20,000 fans were reached, they had enough people’s photos to put on the balloons that could lift the whole car up into the air.

56 people spent eight hours putting the monstrous cloud of white and blue balloons together, but the weather was against them. The mass was 15 meters wide and 20 meters high, so when strong winds blew a whole bunch were ripped off and the ‘experiment’ had to be canceled because it posed risk to air traffic.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
