After Mercedes Benz and BMW, Volkswagen has also revealed its dedicated lineup of vehicles you may or may not want to see in your rearview mirror at the annual RETTmobil exhibition, which is dedicated to emergency and rescue vehicles.

Das Auto has brought along the Sharan and Passat Variant as emergency vehicles together with new features for its range of specialty cars. The Sharan is fitted with a 170 hp version of the 2.0-liter TDI engine and the optional six-speed DSG gearbox. The Passat Variant has the same engine and gearbox but adds four-wheel drive to the mix. Both have Candy White paintwork, front and rear flashing lights and a special signal system.

Also on show is the Touareg emergency medical vehicle, equipped with the 245-horsepower 3.0-liter diesel engine. It features blue front and rear flashing lights plus a special signal system with LED technology. Also on show is a variant of the SUV designed for covert police work, equipped with an accident data storage system and a run-safe mode that allows the engine to function even if the keys are not in the ignition.

This is a German carmaker we are talking about, so attention to detail is a give. Volkswagen said all emergency vehicles have a special suspension tuned to the specific needs of their job.

The carmaker also showed a number o new features to complement the emergency cars, like the headlight flashers, which improve the visibility for medical vehicles. Another new technology presented is the standard horn speaker, which makes the emergency vehicle easier to spot in traffic while lowering the noise level in the cabin.
