Volkswagen Turns to SUV-shaped Pinata for Tiguan Ad

Volkswagen seems to have realized that funny little kids sell a lot of cars. The Das Auto advertising team recently pulled off one of the most popular commercial in the automotive industry withe the Darth Vader Super Bowl spot. Well, they're back again, trying to prove the point that the 2011 VW Tiguan is... robust.

The clever ad features a boy with some serious-looking anger issues bashing an SUV-shaped Pinata at a birthday party. He huffs, he puffs and he lets it all out on the defenseless candy-packed vault, but nothing happens. An adult even has a go at it, presumably his father, but to no avail.

The Pinata then turns to reveal a big VW badge on the front, the the “Built like a Volkswagen. The 2011 Tiguan.” punch-line kicks in. We love the commercial, and would have liked a close-up of the kid’s face - it’s really epic!

The Tiguan was the fist SUV in the world sold exclusively with charged engines - irect injection engines with turbocharging or turbocharging plus supercharging. It also has full-time 4MOTION all-wheel drive and is offered with a choice between two six-speed gearboxes.

“On paved streets an intelligent all-wheel drive also improves active safety. In the Tiguan the latest generation of 4MOTION all-wheel drive is used. It is shifted by manual, or optionally automatic, six-speed transmissions. Both transmissions satisfy special off-road requirements. The manual transmission can be driven at an engine speed of 1,000 rpm or vehicle speed of just 6.69 km/h, for example; this practically equals the crawler gear of a reduction gearbox. The automatic transmission has gear level preselect; in off-road use it prevents shifting to the next higher gear,” Volkswagen says.
