VW’s vans are as iconic as automotive icons get, conjuring up images of hippies, surfboards and peace, as well as excellent reliability and decent handling. Now in its 5th generation, the VW’s Transporter T5 has come a long way from that image, and thanks to its outstanding popularity, there are a very large number of tuners out there who will make your VW van truly your own.(
German specialist-tuner Harmann comes forth with a great tuning kit for the T5, offering a slight performance boost in the form of an ECU remap which pushes the group’s 2.0-liter diesel from 140 hp and 340 Nm to 165 hp and 395 hp, or, if it’s the BiTDI 2.0-liter, its output of 177 hp and 400 Nm is further boosted to 210 hp and 460 Nm - numbers which would make some lesser-powered hot hatches to start trembling with fear.
Aesthetically, the first thing that grabs one’s attention are the wheels which are huge (20-inch) rims with ultra-low profile tires, which work well with the 30mm lower suspension, as well as the new front and rear bumpers and side skirts. On the inside, though, modifications are kept to a minimum, with only some embroided Hartmann logos and some carbon fiber trim pieces boosting the ambiance.
