Volkswagen Touareg Facelift Spied for the First Time, It Was on Towing Duty

Volkswagen is preparing a facelift in the Touareg range, and its prototype was spotted for the first time. The facelift in question will reach the third generation of the Touareg, and it comes shortly after the model's 20th anniversary. The first tests involve towing a trailer through a European mountain pass.

If you have seen the first spy shots with the Škoda Octavia facelift, you might recognize the scenery, as well as the loaded trailer. The latter is shared by VW Group engineers for this kind of test, and it has weights in it to mimic a heavy load.

Since the VW Touareg is capable of towing more than a Škoda Octavia, one would expect the former's trailer to have a bigger load during testing, just to be sure it will operate accordingly even with its heaviest load.

The prototype does not come with too much camouflage, since it is hidden in plain sight as if it were a slightly modified ongoing model. Several fake panels, as well as stickers, are part of the camouflage. Do not let those distract you from the fact that it comes with a set of new headlights, as well as a new front bumper, along with a new front grille.

The front bumper's new shape is slightly camouflaged, but we can still spot a set of air intakes that resemble those found on the Tiguan. Expect to find more technology inside, as well as new things under the hood, such as mild-hybrid tech for all the engines in the range, which will be updated.

The rear of the Touareg also comes with small modifications, such as a restyled bumper, redesigned taillights, and other minor changes. Expect new wheels options, as well as new body colors in the portfolio.

VW is expected to reveal the facelifted Touareg by the end of this year, and the first deliveries should happen a bit later. By 2023, the Touareg facelift will be in showrooms, if not even sooner.
