Volkswagen to Take Over from Campos in F1?

Every day that passes by brings us another interesting turn of events in the Campos Grand Prix saga. As reported by several media through the past few weeks, the Spanish outfit is having a hard time securing the funds to sustain a decent operation in the sport through 2010.

Adrian Campos' team currently has a multi-million euro debt to chassis manufacturer Dallara, which needs to be paid in order to secure their place on the grid of the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix. In case that doesn't happen, Stefan GP is waiting around the corner to take Campos' entry in the 2010 championship, as they have both the money and technology to make the step into the series from as early as this season.

However, according to a recent report from Spanish newspaper AS, it seems Bernie Ecclestone will join efforts with team partner and president Jose Ramon Carabante in rescuing the soon-to-be-defunct Campos Grand Prix, providing them the money to secure their F1 entry.

In return, Adrian Campos needs to move over from the team ownership, while the team will change its name prior to the start of the new season. And that's not all! Carabante's involvement in the team will only last for one campaign, until German car manufacturer Volkswagen will reportedly step in and take over in 2011.

According to the same publication, the new team will be managed by former Force India boss Colin Kolles – who is currently team managing in sports cars and the DTM – and the base of the organization will remain in Valencia.

Bruno Senna, who already signed a deal with Campos GP for the 2010 season, will most likely be kept in the lineup – especially considering Ecclestone's desire to see another Senna in F1 – while the lookout for a second driver will be resumed in due time.

Under the new circumstances, it seems Stefan GP's dreams of having an F1 operation in 2010 are now connected to US F1 and the Americans' efforts to rescue their own team prior to the new season.
