Volkswagen to Reveal Seven-Seat SUV Concept in Detroit

German carmaker Volkswagen is becoming more and more American with each passing day. Their efforts to regain a strong foothold with US buyers will result in the launch of their first-ever seven-seater crossover/SUV.

The model, which has yet to be named, will make its official debut as a concept in Detroit next week. It has been specifically designed for the US market and will slot underneath the Toureg in the model range.

Details are still scarce, but most reports agree it will be manufactured at their Chattanooga plant in Tennessee, where the Passat is made. This means it will not be a model that rivals the Audi Q7, more of a glorified people mover, like Infiniti’s new JX crossover or the Dodge Journey.

autoevolution will be attending the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
