Long time speculations over Volkswagen launching a budget car or brand have become reality, after the German automaker confirmed such a vehicle for 2015.
The Wolfsburg-based company wants their budget car to cost no more than €7,000 ($9,370), and VW boss Martin Winterkorn said the car will be developed in Germany, but produced in China starting 2015.

"We are developing a budget car for the price range between €6,000 and €7,000. Some three million cars are sold in this segment each year in China alone. We have to adopt new methods. The base development will be carried out in Germany. What will it look like, what engines will it get. It will then be further developed in China with our partner and produced from 2015", said Winterkorn to German newspaper Der Spiegel.

The new Volkswagen budget car is supposed to come in different body styles, and rumor has it that it will be sold under a new brand name as part of the German carmaker's strategy we were telling you about yesterday.

VW's technical chief Ulrich Hackenberg dismissed building a cheap looking car and told Autocar that the new Chinese vehicle will "have good styling".
