German automaker Volkswagen will debut two special-editions of the 2013 GTI at the Chicago Auto Show, to commemorate the end of the brand's sixth generation of hot hatches.
Both GTI's, the Wolfsburg Edition and the Driver's Edition, will be offered in the four-door body style exclusively, and just three paint colors: Candy White, Carbon Steel Gray, and Deep Black.
Based on the standard GTI, but with a limited production run of only 2,000 units, the Wolfsburg Edition comes with 18-inch Laguna alloy wheels, a retro golf ball shifter knob, red-stitched floor mats, and a six-speed manual transmission starting from $25,890 (including delivery). For a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic, buyers will have to throw in an extra $1,100.
The GTI Driver's Edition, based of the Sunroof and Navigation trims of the standard GTI, features the same extra offerings as the Wolfsburg Edition, as well as partial leather seating surfaces, a certificate of authenticity, and a special GTI package that includes a hat, keychain, and parking sign. Limited to 3,000 examples, the Driver's Edition will be available during the second quarter of 2013 with a starting price of $30,490.
A new GTI model is expected to be unveiled after the next-generation Volkswagen Golf production starts in Mexico next year.
