Volkswagen to Develop sub-Tiguan Crossover

The Volkswagen Cross Coupe Concept raised a lot of questions when it made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show: is it the next Tiguan? Is it ever going to make it into production and if it will, what will be its place in the VW range?

VW Group’s Walter de Silva recently left his design board for a few moments to talk to Automotive News, explaining that the company is looking to introduce a compact crossover that will be slotted under the Tiguan.

"Crossover demand is expanding from mature markets to emerging markets and we have to cover this growing appetite with a multilateral expansion in the offer of our brands," de Silva was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.

Then, he went on to talk about the Cross Coupe, explaining that this is not a preview for the next Tiguan. However, he said that this would inherit the concept’s front fascia styling, which uses a large grille and small headlights.
