Volkswagen sold the Paheton in the US from 2004 to 2006, selling just over 2,000 units in the process. However, this sales figure was far off what they were planning to sell and 2006 was the last year when the car was imported.
Now, however, according to europe.autonews.com, they may be bringing it back, with its reintroduction being “certainly under discussion”, according to a VW official. In addition to this, it seems that VW will be adding diesels under the hood of more of their US range of cars - the Tiguan is apparently the next recipient of a diesel, receiving the 2.0-liter TDI, which comes in tow states of tune - 140 and 170 hp.

Furthermore, seeing the success of small crossovers like the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport (ASX in Europe) and Mazda’s excellent-selling CX-5, VW have announced that the are considering a US-specific crossover to sit below the Tiguan in their range, to steal some of the Japanese contenders’ sales. We may also see VW using their 1.6-liter TDI in the US for the first time if this plan goes through.
