Volkswagen is going through some issues right now, but the company still has to press on with new models.
The “CrossBlue” SUV is one of them, and it appears that the German company has completed its development process. The new design is a seven-seat, three-row, SUV, which will be built in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Our friends at SB-Medien provided us with a set of spyshots which reveal the fact that Volkswagen is using a production body in on-road tests of the new SUV. Furthermore, the testing team did not conceal the sides of the vehicle, and only the rear and the front of the car are being hidden under camouflage.
This lack of concealment means that the design is finished, and the case is the same for the production body, but the carmaker still wants to keep everything under wraps for a while.
However, you do not have to wait for too long, as this model was previewed in 2013 by a concept called “CrossBlue,” which is the temporary name for this car until Volkswagen announces the official version.
According to reports, previous statements, and insider information, Volkswagen is building its new SUV on the MQB platform. Naturally, the modular technical solution from Volkswagen has been lengthened and widened to suit the size of the new model, but the ideas and concepts remain unchanged. Except for the “defeat device,” which will fortunately not be present in any form or configuration.
Since it has been three years from the moment Volkswagen first showcased a concept car, and the company confirmed it would make the new seven-seat SUV at its Chattanooga plant, it is crystal clear that VW is prepping for the launch of this model. Judging by the lines we can spot on the side of the vehicle, the development team managed to replicate the concept nicely.
The new SUV from Volkswagen is competing in a segment ruled by models like the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, and Chevrolet Traverse. Volkswagen’s upcoming seven-seat SUV will be the first of its kind for the company, as it prepares to expand the business into a new market segment.
