The sixth generation Golf R made it debut just four years ago in 2009. By ditching the old V6 design in favor of a newer 2.0 TSI, VW managed to make the car lighter without compromising performance. Unlike the Golf 6 GTI, which only had 210 hp, this mighty hot hatch produced 270 hp, similar to the output of the Audi S3.
The day when the new Golf R arrives is close, as VW has just released a teaser photo titled "R kommt" ahead of this September's Frankfurt Motor Show. But unlike with the previous generation, this time around the Golf R will have exactly the same output as the S3: 300 horsepower.
If that's the case, than the new Golf should boast the same 380 Nm of torque vectored through all four wheels via a lighter, new 4Motion AWD system and your choice between six-speed manual or automatic.
We'll know for sure if all this speculation amounts to anything in a few days when the car is finally revealed.
