Volkswagen upcoming entry-level crossover, based on the Taigun concept introduced at the 2012 Sao Paolo Motor Show, is rumored to hit the market in 2016.
According to Autobild, the 2016 Taigun, also dubbed "baby Tiguan", will be based on either the Volkswagen Golf or the much smaller Up! in order to allow the German company to offer the vehicle at an affordable price of around €15,000, about €5,000 cheaper than the next Tiguan.

There’s no word on engines yet, but the Taigun concept that was presented in Brazil was powered by a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder mill rated at 110 HP and 176 Nm (129 lb-ft) of torque. The production Taigun is likely to receive a four-cylinder powerplant as well, while all-wheel drive is expected to be placed on the options list.

The German company could also develop a Polo-based crossover in the near future.
