At the 2012 Sao Paulo International Motor Show, Volkswagen introduced the Taigun Concept, which isn’t so much a concept as it is a way to preview a future small SUV, which judging by its size is based on the Up! platform.
The name basically spells Tiguan with the syllables reversed, and it is quite beefy looking despite carrying room for four people and a reasonable boot.
The Taigun concept is 3,859 mm (98 inches) long, 1,728 mm (43.9 inches) wide and 1,570 mm (39.9 inches) tall. As a concept it weighs 985 kg (2,172 pounds) and it carries with it a cargo space of 280 liters.
Power for the Taigun comes from a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine with 110 PS (108 hp) and 175Nm (129 lb-ft).
"The torque-strong three-cylinder is an ideal engine for such a compact SUV; it is a companion for driving through the urban environment that is as efficient as it is dynamic," commented Ulrich Hackenberg, VW Board Member for Technical Development.
