Volkswagen T1 Camper Van Recreated by LEGO

The legendary Volkswagen Camper van has a new exclusive fan club which decided to bring it back to life in a very special way. The van, which was extremely popular among hippies, was recreated by LEGO for enthusiasts in amazing detail.

The VW T1 Camper van from 1962 also known as the Combi or the hippie van includes features such as the “V” shape three-way color scheme at the front, rounded roof and window frames as well as safari front windows, opening doors and the well known pop-up roof.

”Its unique character and charm have made it loved all over the world, which has also meant that it has become one of the most customizable vehicles ever produced. There is lots of technical building within the model that I think LEGO fans will enjoy. I’m also hoping that it will appeal to a wider audience, not just LEGO fans. I think the Volkswagen community out there will really appreciate this model,” said LEGO designer John-Henry Harris.

The van has such an amazing success that it was naturally to immortalize it in the most original way possible by LEGO. As it would be normal for a LEGO assembly kit, the model looks quite square in profile. But taking a closer look at the model will reveal the fact that it is actually subtly curved resembling the original, challenging this way it creator John-Henry. “It’s not until you look closer that you actually see that there are three curves on the front of the van, but we think we’ve managed to get everything right,” added John Henry.
