Introduced in 2017 and one of only two Volkswagen models wearing the R badge, the T-Roc has just received some minor updates meant to keep it competitive.
On the powertrain front, we have a new range-topping diesel, the 2.0 TDI making a whopping 190 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. We think it's overkill, considering the T-Roc is basically just a lifted hatchback and thus relatively light.
With this much power, the T-Roc outguns the Golf GTD or the Octavia RS. And because it comes standard with 4Motion all-wheel-drive and a 7-speed DSG, it's going to be quite the sprinter too. For the record, the car already had a 190 HP 2.0-liter TSI, but it made 80 less torque.
Available in Germany from €35,105, the T-Roc 2.0 TDI is quite expensive and can be further enhanced with a bunch of goodies this year. New is the Black Style equipment package, which does exactly what the name suggests.
The black treatment affects different black elements, such as exterior mirror housings, side trims, the bottom radiator trim strip as well as black 18-inch “Grange Hill” alloy wheels. Furthermore, the large C-pillar trim receives a grey and black pattern.
The black pack will set you back €1,235 for the mid-range T-Roc Style or €1,575 on the Sport line. Further matching options include 19-inch Suzuka wheels that you see in this photo. Also being introduced is a new variation on the "beats" theme with red accents inside and out.
The core of this €720 pack (€850 for the Sport) is a sound system with six speakers, an 8-channel amplifier, subwoofer and a total output of 300 watts. The T-Roc beats will also have a red dash insert, red dashboard lighting, red mirror caps and 17-inch Mayfield wheels. The beats package has been available for two years, but it didn't have cosmetic goodies like this.
