Volkswagen Sold 22.8% More Commercial Vehicles in 2010

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has shifted a total of 435,600 units worldwide last year, representing an increase of 22.8 percent over the 354,800 it managed in 2009. Growth was driven by the best-selling T5 series of light commercial vehicles, with its Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan and California variants. The Caddy range came a close second, but saw its sales diminished by 8 percent last year.

“After 2009′s large-scale financial crisis and the resulting market slump, last year saw a return to the level of our record sales of 2007 and 2008. This means we now have a solid footing from which to pursue our plans for future growth,” commented Harald Schomburg, Member of the Brand Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

More than a third of last year’s sales figure was achieved by the T5 range, which saw its global deliveries rise 27 percent to 148,000 units. Meanwhile, the Caddy range achieved 128,700 deliveries worldwide, 8 percent less than its 2009 total, when the government’s scrappage scheme was in effect. The Crafter saw a 10.4 percent rise in sales, with 37,450 deliveries compared to 33,900 in 2009. The new Amarok pickup is also doing well, with 22,600 units delivered last year and a further 40,000 binding orders already placed for 2011.

“Our modern, efficient products, such as the new Amarok, new T5 and the new Caddy are proving exceptionally popular on international markets. Our dealers, importers and partners around the world have done a fantastic job. The upturn in the markets is a sure sign that we can look to the future with increasing optimism,” said Schomburg.
