Volkswagen has announced plans for several updated models which will be added to the Polo supermini range right after their debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
Starting with most exciting, the the 2014 version of the BlueGT looks exactly the same as the old one… which is rather strange considering its xenons and bumper are now old tech. But you do get 10 extra horsepower for a total of 150 hp. We'll remind you this warm hatch is powered by a 1.4-liter TSI engine with cylinder deactivation, making it one of the most frugal cars in its class, expected to return 4.8 l/100km (58.8 mpg UK).
The 150 hp Blue GT will be shown in Geneva alongside two new BlueMotion Polos, which will be even more frugal. The TSI BlueMotion is powered by a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine delivering 90 PS and 4.1 l/100km (68.9 mpg UK). But geneva will also host the debut of a new 1.4 TDI diesel engine with three cylinders, this eco version of the Polo will sip only 3.1. liters of fuel, which make it one of the most frugal Volkswagens with conventional engines.
Finally, there the new CrossPolo, which isn't exactly that new. The headlights are from the old polo and so are all of the body panels. The only changes bits are the wheels, the new paint and a bit of trim. Volkswagen also says the CrossPolo gains a new steering wheel, cabin fabrics and updated gear and parking brake lever, hopefully the ones from the Polo facelift.
We've saved the best till last. Wolfsburg has announce plans to put CNG and plug-in hybrid version of the Polo in 2015.
