Volkswagen Scirocco GT TDI Released

For all those of you out there who have enjoyed the release of the Volkswagen Golf 6 GTD, this latest news from the German manufacturer can do nothing than please you even more. Even if the new GT TDI is basicaly the GTD in Scirocco form, the Scirocco GT TDI is nothing than a desired addition to the revived range (trust we will tell you why that is so).

As we said, the GT TDI is powered by the engine we can find on the GTD, Motor Authority reported. That is a 2.0 common rail TDI unit, which develops 170 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, mated to the same transmission choices: either a six-speed manual or a six speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG). Performance levels are similar for both the Golf GTD and the Scirocco GT TDI: naught to sixty in a little over 8 seconds and a top speed which surpasses 220 km/hour (136.7 mph).

Being a Scirocco, you might have thought it would have needed more power. Still, the torque levels of the engine may provide drivers the thrills they would expect from the Scirocco. And this without eating too much fuel. The four cylinder engine consumes 5.3l every hundred kilometers, just like (you guessed it) the GTD.

Ok, so what was Volkswagen thinking when it basically took GTD's heart out and implanted it to the Scirocco body? Well, Volkswagen is currently working on the Scirocco R20, boasting a heart stopping 270 horsepower troop. The GT TDI is the intermediary model between the series 2.0l and the future R20, expected sometimes this year.
