Volkswagen Reports 32% CV Sales Increase for First Quarter in Britain

Britain has gone CV-crazy, as the 2011 Commercial Vehicle Show has kicked off today, so this is the perfect time for any manufacturer to announce how well it is doing in this sales department. Volkswagen has announced that its UK sales in March alone March alone set a new export sales record for the month in the history of the company worldwide, while beating the previous British record, which dated back to March 2007, by over 450 vehicles.

With 7,316 CVs sold up to the end of March this year, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has enjoyed a 32.2 percent increase in sales compared to the same period last year, plus a 1,800 vehicle lead over its nearest rival to comfortably maintain its third position in the total market.

The new Caddy, which was launched at the end of 2010, has already proved a great success compared to the first three months last year with sales up 43 percent. It also outsold the Ford Transit Connect, making it the best-selling van in the 2,000 to 2,499 kg light van sector. Meanwhile, the new Transporter that was also launched last year saw deliveries increased by 44 percent, in the first quarter of 2011 compared to 2010, continuing to be Volkswagen’s best-selling van in the UK.

“Our sales figures are even more impressive because they have been achieved without resorting to distress tactics or offering huge discounts which wreck residual values of our customers’ assets.  Instead, this success is because we now have a really fresh range of vehicles with advanced Euro5 engines on every model, a dedicated Van Centre network and staff who have worked hard to give exceptional customer service,” explains Simon Elliott, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK.
