Volkswagen Releases Video of the Tiguan Allspace, Arteon and Up! GTI Testing

We really like this type of official spy video. Everybody knows that these vehicles exist, so Volkswagen decided to take us behind the scenes of the Tiguan Allspace, Arteon coupe, and Up! GTI testing process in South Africa. It's a similar to watching how a movie was made, but without the actors.

All three of these cars should debut pretty soon, starting with the Tiguan Allspace. In fact, we've already seen photos of it from China, where it's sold as the Tiguan L. The bit that interests us is how different it will be from the European model and how similar to the Atlas.

With 11 centimeters of additional space and the option for a third row of seats, the Allspace will be the only Tiguan offered in America.

Despite being a successor to the CC, the Arteon is described as a flagship sedan, which could explain why the roof is less sloped. Like the Tiguan, it will be roomy inside, plus we suspect that it now has a practical liftback trunk opening.

Poised to debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the Arteon will have a range of turbocharged engines, most of which will be of the 2.0-liter variety. All-wheel drive and DSG gearboxes are also a certainty.

This video is yet more confirmation from Volkswagen that the Up! GTI is coming. The German company that said it will cut several models and stop investing in new niches now has plans to challenge the smart fortwo Brabus.

We have two issues with the Up! GTI. One is that it will arrive in 2018, late in the city car's life cycle. It also doesn't look like a GTI should, lacking the red frills and oversized exhaust.

Clearly, the aim of the car is to allow VW to say "we made a successor to the original GTI from 40 years ago." In place of an 8-valve 1.6-liter, the future hot hatch will have a 1.0 TSI turbo engine with 115 PS. Such a unit has already been made available in the Brazilian market, which might have been the catalyst for the Up! GTI's development.
