Finally, VW got it! The Germans are installing a new ESP system that can be fully disconnected, for when the driver wants to take full advantage of the car’s potential, as autocar reports.
The new system is being introduced on the Golf GTI and R models, as well as on the entire Scirocco range - you’ll be able to perform stunts in your 4.49 liters per 100 km Scirocco Bluemotion! However, the company hasn't mentioned anything about the new system being installed on the Polo GTI.
The move comes after both the media and the public criticized the existing ESP for being too much of a nanny. In other words, the system is too sensible compared to what the competition offers, as it never allow the driver to take full control of the car.
The more docile ESP will be used starting with the 2012 model year Sciroccos, Golf GTIs and Rs. These will be built starting from May and will hit showrooms from July.
The fresh ESP will use a two-stage setup. If the driver presses the ESP button once, the traction control will be disabled, while keeping the button pressed for over three seconds kills both traction control and electronic braking systems.
However, the system will become active again is the person behind the wheel pressed the brake pedal during a dangerous situation. If the brake pedal is not depressed, the system will keep its “off” state.
Our say: “That's the way aha aha I like it aha aha”
