The VW R division is one of the newest of its kind, but it's already got clear plans for how to gather customers that want to go fast.

In an interview for autoblog, Ulrich Riestenpatt gt. Richter, the division's Executive Director, and Dr. Hendrik Muth, who leads R's marketing offensive, revealed that, for them, diesel and all-wheel-drive are the pathways to follow.

This could mean that the next R-badged vehicle will be an oil-burning version of the Golf R. In addition to that, Richter explained the aforementioned source that the division can touch any vehicle of the VW range with its magic wand, so we're expecting to see a CC R and a Beetle R in the future.

The executive also said that the company doesn't believe in hybrids, explaining that the benefits of introducing such a powertain can be achieved by loosing 100 kg (220 lbs). However, he noted that composite materials that allow weight reduction, such as carbon fiber, are still very expensive, which probably means that we'll get aluminum developments in the future. This could make sense, since Audi has experience in this field.
