VW used its dedicated Worthersee festival in Austria to showcase the new Polo R WRC Street concept car, with the vehicle set to become a production reality next year.
The vehicle, which draws (visual) inspiration from the carmaker’s WRC contender, which is set to start racing next year, uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit that produces 220 hp. Thus, the car promises to be faster than the Golf GTI, thus being worthy of the “R” badge.
The VW Polo Street WRC uses an aerodynamic package that includes a new front bumper with generously-sized air vents and a lip spoiler, a rear diffuser, black wheel arch add-on elements, as well as a black rear wing.
The vehicle rides on on a set of rally-inspired alloy wheels and comes with a lowered suspension. The motorsport theme is carried out inside the car, where we get sport seats and an Alcantara-finished steering wheel.
Our say: nice car and nice marketing, but Vee-Dub would better win next year, or all the owners of the street car will be embarrased.
