For weeks now, we've been looking left and right, high and low for actual examples of the road-going Polo R WRC. We've checked every spotter website, searched on dealer's lots and online auction website. Nobody had photos of the actual car, and that was because it probably didn't exist.
Well here it is dear VW fans, the most powerful Polo ever made, in the sheetmetal. Although from a distance, the body looks almost the same as your regular GTI, VW's racing colors for the WRC set it apart. The body kit is inspired from the Golf 6 R and changes the shape of the air intakes at the front. The standard headlights are the more expensive ones with LED DRLs. You'll also notice it by the rear wing and the new wheel design which is the 18-inch Cagliari, but other than that, it's not that special.
What's special is under the bonnet. This is what happens when you put a Golf GTI engine in a Polo. The 2.0 TSI unit offers exactly the same 220 PS and 350 Nm of torque as the Mk7 GTI. Thanks to this, the Polo R goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, 0.1 seconds faster than the Golf GTI.
