Sebastien Ogier clinched the Volkswagen Polo R’s first World Rally Championship win after a fierce battle with nine-time crown holder Sebastien Loeb (Citroen) in Sweden.
In its only second rally, Volkswagen managed to score an impressive victory on the final day of the Swedish Rally, after Sebastien Ogier ended the event with a 41 second lead margin ahead of Citroen’s seemingly unstoppable Sebastien Loeb.
“It’s simply incredible to claim the first victory for the Volkswagen team in our only second rally. This is the greatest moment of my career,” said Ogier after the race, while VW officials claimed the win exceeded the company’s expectations.
The Swedish victory makes Sebastien Ogier the World Rally Championship leader after two events, the VW driver being followed closely by Citroen’s Sebastian Loeb, while Ford’s Mads Ostberg is in third place.
The next race of the 2013 WRC season is Rally Mexico, which starts on March 8.
