Volkswagen Polo Coupe to Debut This Year?

OK, this seems to become a bit boring. A new story concerning the longly-praised Polo, after Volkswagen announcing the car is already a hit in Germany, after the company also said it will launch the model in the United States, after the Worthersee version displayed in Austria and after the mini MPV based on the Polo that may be released in two years.

Well, this time we're talking about a new car based on Polo that may be presented to the world for the first time this year at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The so-called Polo Coupe is expected to be much more appealing compared with the base model, despite sharing some styling elements with it.

However, it will benefit from design cues of several other models and concepts presented by Volkswagen, including the Bluesport Concept and the Scirocco. According to autoexpress.co.uk, the car will mainly rely on two differenet engine configurations, a 1.4-liter supercharged and a turbocharged powerplant, with maximum output going as high as 178 horsepower. Pretty obvious since we're talking about a Volkswagen model, the engines will be mated to the company's seven-speed DSG transmission.

As you can see, Volkswagen Polo is indeed playing a key role for the German manufacturer, just like representatives of the company said a while ago when launching the car.

"The new Polo fulfills the highest standards of the automotive present and goes a step further. Its extremely efficient drive technologies, best possible active and passive safety systems, a level of quality never before attained in this car class and impressive design all set new benchmarks in the fifth generation of this bestseller that has sold over 10.6 million units,"
Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Group, said in March at the Geneva Motor Show.
