We were wondering when all the spyshots of Volkswagen’s ultra-frugal XL1 would materialize into some concrete news. Well, according to whatcar.com, VW board member, Professor Ulrich Hackenberg reportedly confirmed a small production run of the car for 2013, at the Paris Motor Show.
Sales reportedly begin next year, and while the exact number of cars is not yet known, the word ‘limited’ production run could mean anything, especially if we take into consideration VW’s manufacturing prowess. The XL1 will be followed by a plug-in hybrid version of the all-new Golf, as well as a new, even more frugal BlueMotion model, featuring an all-new three-cylinder engine, which will boost its already excellent efficiency figure even higher.

Hackenberg also mentioned that a production version of the Bulli Microbus is currently out of the question, as is their Bluesport roadster, which VW claims would not achieve the desired sales figures, and thus is being held back.
