Volkswagen Made Pink Beetle for Barbie's 50th Birthday

It seems that Fiat wasn't the only automaker that designed a special car to celebrate Barbie's 50th birthday. Volkswagen of America created a customized new Beetle convertible especially for the most famous doll's anniversary.

The pink Beetle was changed into a Barbie dream car with the help of artists ABD Racing Werks, Katzkin Leather and Interiors and FoamMolders who managed to transform the car's interior and exterior so that it matches with the doll's tastes. In order to obtain the perfect pink for the doll, the artists have mixed over five shades of paint.

“We are extremely proud to partner with Mattel and create a customized New Beetle convertible to celebrate Barbie’s landmark birthday,” said Laura Soave, General Manager of Marketing, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “Like the New Beetle, Barbie has made a remarkable impact on pop culture history, and still remains a cultural icon today.”

Special attention was paid to the details of the car as well, the car featuring leather interior, hand stitched floor mats and pink quilted leather lined door pockets and arm rests. What's more, Barbie's Beetle convertible is equipped with motorized vanity in the trunk as well as with plenty of rhinestone accents and vanity mirrors.

Besides the pink Beetle as a special guest to Barbie's birthday, the party included 1,800 pairs of Barbie sunglasses, 3,500 pairs of tiny shoes, 3,500 mini handbags and numerous Hollywood celebrity guests.

Well, we must confess the life-size pink Beetle doesn't look bad at all... for a doll. With Heidi Klum by its side, the image seems complete. However, after seeing two pink cars which were designed especially for the Barbie doll (this one and the Fiat 500 we spoke about earlier), we do wait for some reaction from Paris Hilton. Wasn't she a Barbie fan after all? Wasn't the passion for Barbie the reason for painting her Bentley in pink?
