Volkswagen Is All Worked Up! About Something That's Coming to Frankfurt

Here we go again! We find ourselves talking about a car that been given too much attention from the marketing side and not enough from the ‘i want more power’ side. We swear, it’s the last time this will happen!

Volkswagen has tried to be cute by releasing this 42-second clip that announces the arrival of the ultra-small Up! in Frankfurt next month. The video is filled with attractive young people jumping into the air, smiling and... We just can’t take this - where’s the small car, Volkswagen?!

Thankfully, we know roughly what it will look like thanks to the previous concept forms, so there’s no need to worry. But with the global economy in trouble, will a relatively expensive, really small model with good economy really manage to sell well?

Rumors are circulating the Internet suggesting the Up! might be revealed either online or at a special event even before September’s Frankfurt show, but we’ve got our plane tickets for Germany already and are committed to shoot it there for our readers. However, there’s no way that we'll be as excited as those folks in the video are.

We’re 99% sure that the little box will have two doors, four wheels, and seating for four people. Power will be provided by a three-cylinder engine, as VW has ruled out two-pots. The big reveal will result in the production version arriving in showrooms late this year at a price of about €10,000... We can’t wait!

autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
