If you thought the likes of the VW ID.4 or ID.5 don’t seem capable enough to handle your off-roading lifestyle, then check out this latest concept from V-Dub. It’s called the ID. XTREME and it’s basically an ID.4 GTX, only a lot more rugged.
This concept was unveiled at the ID. Treffen in Locarno, featuring raised rally running gear, 18-inch off-road wheels, a modified front bumper, 50 mm-wider wings, additional LED lighting up top, plus a high-performance drive on the rear axle, increasing the system output by 65 kW to 285 kW (382 hp), compared to the ID.4 GTX.

VW’s engineers also worked on acoustics, creating a new driving noise for the vehicle. Meanwhile, the interior of the concept boasts highlights such as Alcantara applications, revamped seats and orange accents.

“The modular electric drive matrix (MEB) has enormous technical potential,” said Silke Bagschik, head of the MEB product line. “For many of our customers, vehicles are much more than just a means of transport. With the ID. XTREME, we are raising electric mobility from VW to a new performance level.”

He then went on to add: “The ID. XTREME is made by enthusiasts at Volkswagen for ID. enthusiasts here in Locarno. We are really eager to find out how the fans of electromobility react to the vehicle. Based on the feedback from our community, we will decide how to proceed with the project.”

In other words, if the feedback is positive, we might see this thing in series production, one way or another – either as a special edition, a limited edition, or both. Or perhaps VW could find some competitive applications for it, but we’re already getting ahead of ourselves here.

As for ID. Treffen, it’s a “by and for fans” type of thing, as Mr. Bagschik pointed out, and could conceivably become a go-to green and sustainable event for electric mobility.
