Volkswagen Group Delivers Just Under 6 Million Cars in 10 Months

Volkswagen has managed to shift a total of 5.98 million cars in the period from January until October this year, beating the global automotive market. The amount is a record 612,200 units more then the carmaker managed to sell in the same period of last year.

The 12.4 percent increase in sales is almost triple the 4.5 percent by which the global market has grown. The company reported a 9.8 percent rise in the month of October alone. “We are continuing to gain global market share. We expect this trend to continue over the coming months as we systematically progress with our model initiative,” Group Board Member for Sales Christian Klingler said.

The sales are partially justified by the company's growth in key markets such as China and the US. Thanks to government incentives for new car owners, deliveries during the first ten months grew 38.4 percent to 1.65 (1.19) million vehicles in China alone. In fact, the whole Asia/Pacific sector saw an increase of 39.1 percent to 1.83 (1.31) million cars sold.

The company saw more modest gains on the European market, just 0.2 percent to 2.78 million. VW West European market share did however increase, with deliveries jumping by 13.8 percent (Western Europe excluding Germany).

Audi sold some 916,900 (787,710) vehicles worldwide from January to October, representing an increase of 16.4 percent from a year ago. Deliveries in October alone ran at approximately 87,600 units. Additionally, the Audi A1 and A7 are expected to boost sales even further.

The Czech automaker Skoda, who has a smaller network of global dealers, only say a sales jump of 69,200 units, 5.5 percent more than a year ago. Seat showed a stable increase in sales, shifting 285,200 cars to its customers.

“We are still monitoring the automotive market, which is evidencing different trends in different regions, very closely. We are on track to achieve a pleasing increase in worldwide deliveries for the full year,” said Christian Klingler, with a clear focus on regional trends for the company’s brands.
