We're sorry to report that Volkswagen has just made a commercial which isn't funny at all, despite trying very hard to be. Predictably, it's also for a car that's very boring.
"Duel" is an ad they made for the launch of the new Golf Variant, oddly filmed in America, where it's sold as a Jetta. Two boys who live next to each other compete in everything they do, nobody really wins in the end. The idea here, at least according to VW, is that the Golf and Golf Variant are just two different cars, neither being better.
We get that when the boy washing the normal hatchback finishes washing it first but gets an extra chore. Just like that, the Golf is more compact, but you might need to make more trips to carry the same amount of stuff.
The ad is way too subtle for that. Hopefully, the Golf Variant really is a good car, because this won't help it sell.
