Did your mother ever tell you to tie your shoelaces tightly so you don't trip on them on the stairs? Well, this guy's mother should have told him to secure that rear wheel better, so other cars don't trip over it on the 'Ring after it flies off.
The moment we see the Volkswagen Golf MKIII enter the scene, the spin had already begun and it seems like there's nothing the driver can do to save the situation.
On the other hand, watching these touristenfahrten clips all the time we've seen plenty of cars spin on the asphalt, but their wheels didn't start to take off in all directions as if they were popcorn. We get the physics behind the reason it snapped, but if that were to happen all the time, then nobody would be drifting and doing donuts on dry tarmac anymore.
And yet, they do. That leaves us with just two possibilities: one, it was simply bad luck and the guy happened to find himself in one of those one-in-a-million situations when the forces align in such a way that the poor wheel doesn't stand a chance anymore.
Or something wasn't right with his wheel and it just gave in under the high forces generated by the spin. Either way, the best part is nobody was hurt, despite the fact that A45 AMG was pretty close to the whole incident and could have bumped into him if the driver wasn't paying attention. On the other hand, if don't pay attention when on a track, I really wouldn't want to cross paths with you in real traffic.
The camera man then follows the loose wheel on its little journey down the track. And it just keeps going, even taking the next corner - better than the car it just came off, if you ask us - before disappearing behind the guardrails.
This only highlights another important rule when driving on a track during an open day - besides keeping a safe distance from the car in front before overtaking it: when you notice an accident, reduce speed and continue to drive slowly for the next few hundred meters. You never know when a loose wheel lurking in the bushes might jump at you.
